I’m not sure how many people would agree with me here but I never thought of Ethnic wear as fashionable. To me and to other people I know who have been brought up with an extremely liberal mindset, the two seemed alienable concepts. After all, when we think of fashion we think of models walking down the ramp or those glamorous adverts on TV. So how and when did this metamorphosis happen? I’m referring to the fact that now a woman adorning a beautiful saree, or a bohemian looking suit is not just considered respectable but very attractive as well. To answer my own question, you can make a statement with Ethnic wear.
To elaborate a bit more, this seemingly wavering outlook comes from way back to the Indus Valley Civilization. Even now in fact, if you go to Bengal or Maharashtra for example there are many different draping styles for saris and salwar kameez. That means women were fashionable even then! and there! Fashion has come a long way since then, one can choose from a variety of styles, simple straightforward designs or intricate hand weaves, embroidered patterns, colorful prints the list goes on and on.
